This week is World Breastfeeding Week and the theme for 2022 is to ‘Step up for Breastfeeding: Educate and Support’🤱🏻🤍
We all have an important role to play in supporting breastfeeding because breastfeeding can be extremely difficult and many mother’s may struggle with it.
To optimally breastfeed, mother’s need support from not only their friends and family, but also from health care professionals, health services, the workplace and the community.
Some of the challenges that mothers often face with breastfeeding and that need to be addressed are:
🔸 A lack of support and awareness for the importance of breastfeeding
🔸 Workplaces not supporting breastfeeding or providing the time and space required for it
🔸The lack of support from the partner, family or community
🔸 Mother’s having to return to work too early or before they are ready
🔸 Poor knowledge on the practical aspects of introducing complementary foods but still continuing with breastfeeding
There are many other challenges that breastfeeding mother’s may face. The next time that you are around a family member, friend or someone who is breastfeeding, remember to offer them the support that they need. 🤱🏻
