Could your snacks be the reason why you are struggling to lose weight?

Often we feel like a sweet treat during the afternoon slump or our after dinner sweet tooth, but those small treats could be the reason why you are struggling to lose weight.

In South Africa, I know most of us enjoy a good cup of tea or coffee in the morning with a rusk, but many of us struggle to stick to just one. Unfortunately rusks, biscuits, chips, chocolates, sweets, hot chocolate, cappuccinos, cereal and health bars are often very calorie dense and could actually be equivalent to having an entire meal.

Snacking on unhealthy, calorie dense snacks is a common problem because packaged snacks such as chips, chocolate, rusks, biscuits and sweets are easy to grab and eat on the go 🍭 🍪🍟

When these snacks are being consumed everyday in large quantities it can not only lead to weight gain, but also increase your risk of developing diseases such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and even cancer. Rather choose to snack on chopped fruit and yoghurt, a small handful of nuts, vegetable sticks dipped in cottage cheese or hummus, Ryvita with cottage cheese or a handful of lean sliced biltong.
